Join us for an UNMISSABLE evening and learn about our historical past themed around the popular Turkish drama Resurrection: Ertugrul (as featured on Netflix).


The evening will consist of:


1. Inspirational Talks (Salahuddin Al Ayyubi / Battle of Ain Jalut / Chivalry and Honour)
2. Martial Arts Display (Stick Fighting pantomime style display)
3. Fun Strong Person Challenges and Ertugrul Prize giveaway
4. Lively Stalls and Bazaar
5. Food/Refreshments (for purchase)

Profiles:


  • Dr Uthman Lateef, Author at Islam21c, has a BA (First Class Hons) in History, an MA (Dist.) in Crusader Studies, and has completed a PhD in the Place of Fada'il al-Quds' (the Merits of Jerusalem) and Religious Poetry in the Muslim effort to recapture the Crusades. Currently, he is a khateeb at Stoke Poges Lane Mosque and Islamic Centre, Slough. He is in the process of publishing his PhD thesis and is currently conducting post-doctorate research in International Relations ('The effect of war media iconography on US identity: disruptive images, counter hegemony and political syncretism'). He presents a weekly show on Islam Channel (813), 'The Greatest Generation' and is a speaker at mosques and universities in the UK and internationally.
  • Imam Ammar Domun has completed a degree in History and Masters in Islamic Law. Obtained ijazah for Hafs from Al-Azar. Currently khateeb at Hedgecock Community Centre, Upney.
  • Shaykh Mustafa Abdalla a former Imam at East London Mosque and Al-Norr, London. Teacher of Qu'ran, Arabic and Islamic Jurispudence. Studied MA in International University of Afrca, Sudan.
  • Abjol Miah is the founder of Community Martial Arts Trust, which promotes Modern and Traditional Mixed Martial Arts to the Community. He is an experienced trainer specialising in the Filipino style of combat. He is also an active community leader and works for a number of leading charities.

Further Details:


Dr Uthmaan Lateef (about the Crusades and the role of Muslim poets in their response to the loss of Jerusalem. This will set the scene for the revival of Sunni thought in Syria in the 12th Century culminating in the counter-crusade spiritual effors of Nur al-Din Zengi and the justice and magnanimity of Salahuddin al-Ayyubi (RH) and his recovery of Jerusalem).

Shaykh Mustafa Abdalla (on Chivalry and Honour)


Abjol Miah Martial Arts expert showcasing a variety of techincal demonstations, including battle performances inspired by the Kayi tribe. It will be an interactive display with some participation from audience.


Kayi Free Gifts, Entertaining fitness challenges, Self defence lessons, stalls and lots more.


Evening will be concluded with Dinner (to be purchased) with profits going to Charity.

- To realise our future through understanding our past

- Raise awareness of health and fitness and the importance which Islam places on this topic
- Inspire community to implement good characteristics as exemplified in Dirilis Ertugrul, i.e. Taqwa, Tawakkul, Being dutiful to Parents, Honesty, Chivalry, Bravery, Leadership, Brotherhood, Upholding promises, Determination etc
- Realise the destruction of in fighting/from within the family
- Ralise the importance of being righteous in open and in secret
- To carefully forge our future and not just marvel at historic legacies


Why Ertugrul Theme


- People are spending a lot of time in front of TV/social media consuming hours and not benefitting much
- To utilise the recent hype of Dirillis Ertugrul to benefit the Community
- The series promotes positive Islamic values which are highly beneficial if embedded into one's character
- Inspires people to study Islamic history and seek out important lessons from it
